Fresh Hawaiian Heart of Palm Recipes

Fresh Hawaiian Heart of Palm can be used in a variety of different ways, from Fresh in a salad, to sauteed, grilled, baked or steam. Chefs around the world have experimented with this unique vegetable. Here are a few we like:

CRAB CEVICHE WITH FRESH HEARTS OF PALM

Adapted from Tyler Florence

I N G R E D I E N T S
1 pound lump crab meat
2 tablespoons minced red bell pepper
2 tablespoons minced yellow bell pepper
2 medium jalapenos, thinly sliced in circles
1 small red onion, thinly sliced in circles
4 cups fresh hearts of palm, sliced in circles 1/2 bunch chives,
minced 2 limes, juiced
Salt to taste
Cracked black pepper to taste

I N S T R U C T I O N S
Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for 2 hours. Serve.
Makes 4 servings.

 

HEARTS OF PALM REMOULADE SALAD

I N G R E D I E N T S
1/2 lb fresh hearts of palm, chopped
1/3 cup Greek yogurt, drained
1 Tbsp capers
1 tsp Creole mustard
1/2 tsp hot sauce
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup chopped parsley
paprika to garnish


I N S T R U C T I O N S
Mix yogurt, caper, mustard, hot sauce, salt and pepper together. Mix with hearts of palm and stir in chopped parsley. Sprinkle with paprika to garnish.


MICHAEL'S FRESH HAWAIIAN HEART OF PALM AHI POKE

I N G R E D I E N T S
1 pound fresh ahi
1/2 teaspoon fresh Hawaiian ginger
2 teaspoon natural wasabi powder
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/4 cup light shoyu
1 6-inch piece fresh heart of palm stem portion
Fresh chopped greens of your choice
Note: Some of these measurements are approximate and should be done to taste.

I N S T R U C T I O N S
Cut ahi into bite-size pieces. Mix together ginger, wasabi and shoyu. Add to ahi and mix. Add sesame oil and mix.
Thinly slice fresh heart of palm.
Toss with poke and chill.
Plate on fresh chopped greens.

 

BAKED HEART OF PALM

Serves: 6

I N G R E D I E N T S
1 1/2 lbs fresh heart of palm, washed
1 egg, beaten
Parsley
Paprika
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup bread crumbs
Dark green lettuce leaves (for serving)

I N S T R U C T I O N S
Preheat oven to 400F degrees

Slice large pieces in halves or thirds lengthwise. Dip each piece in beaten egg, then in bread crumbs. Place in a small baking pan and pour melted butter over them.

Bake 10 minutes at 400.

To serve, place a layer of dark lettuce on a plate. Arrange hearts of Palm. Sprinkle with paprika and parsley.
